| Amsterdam, 26 juni 2003. The exhibition New York: Capital of Photography consists of photographs of twentieth-century New York. It provides the viewer with a fascinating picture of the development of both city and photography during this period: from the European immigrants on Ellis Island around 1900 to the drug addicts of the 1990s The exhibition includes both Jewish (two-third) and non-Jewish, known and unknown photographers. Among the well-known names are Diane Arbus, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Walker Evans, Nan Goldin, Lewis Hine, Helen Levitt, Lisette Model, Ben Shahn, Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand and Garry Winogrand. |
